Forget, for the moment, a holiday cottage in the sun; it’s winter and you need to keep fit. You may have been spending the winter months keeping in condition by jogging the least traffic polluted streets of your town and you may even be thinking of how you could test yourself, along with your mates or family on a circuit with enough obstacles and enough competition that tests your endurance beyond that of running a Marathon. The course for 6 to 17-year-olds is 4 km long and takes place on the 27th February. Next day, the adults will run the 8km course and it will be much tougher.
Well, Just such an event is waiting for you in the Lovely Cornish town of Falmouth. It’s called Urban Survivor and will be the first such race in the South West. It will take in some of Falmouth’s most well-known sights and stunning scenery while you navigate massive obstacles and various terrain. There are two options: Firstly, as a ‘Completer’ you can compete with other athletes and avoid some of the 40 obstacles. Alternatively, you can register as a competitor and you must negotiate several brutal challenges as an individual or as a part of a team. Full details here.
To tempt you further, if you are a couple or small group, why not make a week of it and stay in a unique holiday cottage in Falmouth; an old lighthouse, or at least, it looks like one, all beautifully appointed with delightful views from the upper deck, where you can sit back and watch the goings on in the harbour or just admire the surrounding town of Falmouth. It’s only a short walk into the centre of town where there are numerous pubs, hotels and good restaurants and where the nightlife begins. You could also be lucky and have some good weather. Spring comes early down here and Cornwall is the first county to benefit from the warm sun, so give it a go; prove to yourself how much stamina you have, then sample the delights of the South West. There’s no better place in which to relax than in your own ‘lighthouse’ holiday cottage with a view that is so spectacular it will take your breath away.
